- 4 large onions, thinly sliced
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 1/4 teaspoon black pepper
- 1 teaspoon sugar
- 1 tablespoon balsamic vinegar
- 8 ounces cream cheese, softened
- 1/2 cup sour cream
- 1/2 cup mayonnaise
- 1 cup shredded Gruyère cheese
- 1/2 cup grated Parmesan cheese
- 2 cloves garlic, minced
- 1 teaspoon Worcestershire sauce
- 1/4 cup chopped fresh chives (for garnish)
Instructions
- Preheat the oven to 375°F (190°C).
- In a large skillet, heat olive oil over medium heat. Add onions, salt, pepper, and sugar. Cook, stirring occasionally, until onions are deeply caramelized, about 25-30 minutes. Add balsamic vinegar and cook for another 2 minutes. Let cool slightly.
- In a large bowl, beat the softened cream cheese until smooth. Mix in sour cream and mayonnaise until well combined.
- Stir in the caramelized onions, Gruyère, Parmesan, garlic, and Worcestershire sauce. Transfer the mixture to a baking dish.
- Bake for 20-25 minutes, until hot and bubbly and the top is golden.
- Garnish with chives and serve warm with baguette slices, crackers, or vegetable sticks.
Notes
Make ahead: Prepare the dip up to 2 days in advance and refrigerate. Bake just before serving. For extra flavor, add a pinch of smoked paprika.
