Description

A rich and savory dip with deeply caramelized onions, creamy cheeses, and a golden baked top. Perfect for parties and gatherings.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 2 tablespoons olive oil
  • 4 large onions, thinly sliced
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/4 teaspoon black pepper
  • 1 teaspoon sugar
  • 1 tablespoon balsamic vinegar
  • 8 ounces cream cheese, softened
  • 1/2 cup sour cream
  • 1/2 cup mayonnaise
  • 1 cup shredded Gruyère cheese
  • 1/2 cup grated Parmesan cheese
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 teaspoon Worcestershire sauce
  • 1/4 cup chopped fresh chives (for garnish)

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 375°F (190°C).
  2. In a large skillet, heat olive oil over medium heat. Add onions, salt, pepper, and sugar. Cook, stirring occasionally, until onions are deeply caramelized, about 25-30 minutes. Add balsamic vinegar and cook for another 2 minutes. Let cool slightly.
  3. In a large bowl, beat the softened cream cheese until smooth. Mix in sour cream and mayonnaise until well combined.
  4. Stir in the caramelized onions, Gruyère, Parmesan, garlic, and Worcestershire sauce. Transfer the mixture to a baking dish.
  5. Bake for 20-25 minutes, until hot and bubbly and the top is golden.
  6. Garnish with chives and serve warm with baguette slices, crackers, or vegetable sticks.

Notes

Make ahead: Prepare the dip up to 2 days in advance and refrigerate. Bake just before serving. For extra flavor, add a pinch of smoked paprika.
