Description

A hearty and cheesy one-dish casserole with smoked sausage, rice, and a creamy cheese sauce, perfect for a comforting family meal.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 lb smoked sausage, sliced into rounds
  • 1 cup long-grain white rice, uncooked
  • 1 can (10.5 oz) cream of mushroom soup
  • 1 cup shredded cheddar cheese
  • 1/2 cup milk
  • 1/2 cup chicken broth
  • 1 small onion, diced
  • 1/2 cup frozen peas
  • 1/2 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon paprika
  • Salt and pepper to taste

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C).
  2. In a large skillet over medium heat, cook sliced smoked sausage until browned on both sides. Remove and set aside.
  3. In the same skillet, sauté diced onion until translucent, about 3-4 minutes.
  4. In a mixing bowl, combine cream of mushroom soup, milk, chicken broth, garlic powder, paprika, salt, and pepper. Stir in uncooked rice.
  5. Pour rice mixture into a greased 9×13-inch baking dish. Arrange browned sausage and peas over the top.
  6. Cover with foil and bake for 45-50 minutes, until rice is tender and liquid is absorbed.
  7. Remove foil, sprinkle shredded cheddar cheese over the casserole, and bake uncovered for 5-7 more minutes until cheese is melted and bubbly.
  8. Let stand for 5 minutes before serving.

Notes

For extra flavor, use smoked paprika or add a pinch of cayenne. You can substitute peas with diced bell peppers or corn.
