Description
These air fryer crispy onions are a healthier alternative to traditional deep-fried onions. They are perfect for topping salads, soups, burgers, or even enjoying as a snack. With minimal oil and maximum crunch, they add a delicious texture to any dish.
Ingredients
Scale
For the Crust:
- For the onions:
- 2 large onions (yellow or white)
- 1 tablespoon olive oil
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 1/4 teaspoon black pepper
- 1/4 teaspoon garlic powder (optional)
- For coating (optional):
- 2 tablespoons all-purpose flour
- 1/4 teaspoon paprika (optional)
Instructions
1. Prepare the Crust:
- 1. Peel and thinly slice the onions into rings or half-rings, about 1/8-inch thick.
- 2. In a large bowl, toss the onion slices with olive oil, salt, black pepper, and garlic powder (if using) until evenly coated.
- 3. Optional: For extra crispiness, sprinkle the flour and paprika over the onions and toss again to coat lightly.
- 4. Preheat the air fryer to 375°F (190°C) for 3 minutes.
- 5. Place the onion slices in the air fryer basket in a single layer, ensuring they are not overlapping (you may need to cook in batches).
- 6. Air fry for 8-10 minutes, shaking the basket halfway through, until the onions are golden brown and crispy.
- 7. Remove from the air fryer and let cool on a paper towel-lined plate to absorb any excess oil.
- 8. Use immediately or store in an airtight container for up to 3 days.
Notes
For extra flavor, try adding a pinch of cayenne pepper or smoked paprika. If the onions are not crispy enough, air fry for an additional 1-2 minutes. Avoid overcrowding the air fryer basket for best results.
