For the Crust:

- 2 cups all-purpose flour
- 2 cups granulated sugar
- 1 teaspoon baking soda
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 1 cup unsalted butter
- 3 tablespoons cocoa powder
- 1 cup Coca-Cola
- 1/2 cup buttermilk
- 2 large eggs
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- For the frosting:
- 1/2 cup unsalted butter
- 3 tablespoons cocoa powder
- 6 tablespoons Coca-Cola
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- 3 1/2 cups powdered sugar
- 1 cup chopped pecans (optional)
Instructions
1. Prepare the Crust:
- Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease a 9×13-inch baking pan.
- In a large bowl, whisk together flour, sugar, baking soda, and salt.
- In a saucepan over medium heat, combine 1 cup butter, 3 tbsp cocoa, and 1 cup Coca-Cola. Bring to a boil, then remove from heat.
- Pour hot mixture over dry ingredients and stir until combined.
- Add buttermilk, eggs, and 1 tsp vanilla. Mix well.
- Pour batter into prepared pan and bake for 30-35 minutes until a toothpick comes out clean.
- While cake bakes, make frosting: Melt 1/2 cup butter with 3 tbsp cocoa and 6 tbsp Coca-Cola in a saucepan. Bring to a boil, then remove from heat.
- Whisk in powdered sugar and 1 tsp vanilla until smooth. Stir in pecans if using.
- Pour warm frosting over hot cake immediately after removing from oven. Spread evenly.
- Let cool completely before serving.
Notes
For best results, use regular Coca-Cola (not diet). The cake tastes even better the next day as the flavors meld. Store covered at room temperature for up to 3 days.
