Ingredients

  • 1 1/2sticks (12 tablespoons) salted butter, at room temperature
  • 3/4 cupgranulated sugar
  • 1 teaspoonvanilla bean powder or1 tablespoonvanilla extract
  • 1 tablespoonhazelnut liquor (optional)
  • 1egg, at room temperature
  • 2to2 1/4cups all-purpose flour
  • 1/2 teaspoonbaking soda
  • 1/2 teaspoonkosher salt
  • 2 cupspowdered sugar
  • 1 tablespoonmaple syrup
  • 2 teaspoonsvanilla extract
  • 1/2 cupmelted chocolate chips

Instructions

  1. Cream butter and sugar until fluffy. Mix in vanilla and egg (hazelnut liquor if using).
  2. Combine dry ingredients; gradually add to wet mixture. If sticky, add extra flour.
  3. Roll out, cut into festive shapes, and chill for 30 mins.
  4. Bake at 350°F for 8-10 minutes until golden.
  5. Cool, then decorate with icing, melted chocolate, and M&M’s.

Notes

For a non-alcoholic version, replace hazelnut liquor withalmond extract. Ensure cookies are fully cooled before decorating to prevent the icing from melting.
