For the Crust:

  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1/2 cup unsweetened cocoa powder
  • 1 tsp baking powder
  • 1/2 tsp salt
  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter, softened
  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract
  • 1/2 cup whole milk
  • 12 soft caramel candies
  • 1/2 tsp sea salt

Instructions

1. Prepare the Crust:

  1. Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C) and line a muffin tin with cupcake liners.
  2. Whisk together flour, cocoa powder, baking powder, and salt in a bowl.
  3. Cream butter and sugar until fluffy. Add eggs one at a time, then vanilla.
  4. Alternate adding dry ingredients and milk to the butter mixture, mixing until just combined.
  5. Fill cupcake liners halfway with batter. Place a caramel candy in the center of each and sprinkle with sea salt.
  6. Cover each caramel with more batter until liners are 3/4 full.
  7. Bake for 18-20 minutes until edges are set but centers are still soft.
  8. Let cool for 5 minutes before serving warm.

Notes

You can customize the seasonings to taste.
