For the Crust:

  • 4 bolillo rolls or telera bread
  • 1 lb thinly sliced steak or chicken
  • 1 cup refried beans
  • 1 avocado, sliced
  • 1/2 cup pickled jalapeños
  • 1/2 cup mayonnaise
  • 1/2 cup crumbled queso fresco
  • 1 tomato, sliced
  • 1/2 onion, sliced
  • 1 tbsp taco seasoning
  • 2 tbsp vegetable oil
  • Salt and pepper to taste

Instructions

1. Prepare the Crust:

  1. Heat oil in a pan over medium-high heat. Season the meat with taco seasoning, salt, and pepper. Cook until browned and fully cooked, about 5-7 minutes. Set aside.
  2. Slice the bolillo rolls in half and lightly toast them on a griddle or in a pan.
  3. Spread refried beans on the bottom half of each roll. Layer with cooked meat, avocado slices, tomato, onion, pickled jalapeños, and queso fresco.
  4. Spread mayonnaise on the top half of each roll and place it on top of the sandwich.
  5. Press the torta lightly to compact the ingredients and serve immediately.

Notes

You can customize the seasonings to taste.
