Ingredients

  • 8 ounces elbow macaroni
  • 2 cups shredded sharp cheddar cheese
  • 1 cup shredded mozzarella cheese
  • 2 cups whole milk
  • 2 tablespoons unsalted butter
  • 2 tablespoons all-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon black pepper
  • 1/2 teaspoon paprika
  • 1/4 teaspoon garlic powder

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and grease a 9×13 inch baking dish.
  2. Cook the elbow macaroni according to package instructions until al dente; drain and set aside.
  3. In a saucepan, melt the butter over medium heat. Stir in the flour to make a roux and cook for 1-2 minutes.
  4. Gradually whisk in the milk, stirring constantly until the mixture thickens.
  5. Add the shredded cheddar and mozzarella cheeses, salt, pepper, paprika, and garlic powder; stir until melted and smooth.
  6. Mix the cooked macaroni into the cheese sauce until well coated.
  7. Pour the mixture into the prepared baking dish and spread evenly.
  8. Bake for 25-30 minutes, or until the top is golden and bubbly.

Notes

For a crispier top, broil for the last 2 minutes. This recipe can be customized with additional spices or vegetables.
