  • Author: Classic Southern Desserts

Description

A decadent Southern-style trifle featuring layers of vanilla pudding, fresh bananas, whipped cream, and vanilla wafers. Perfect for potlucks or family gatherings.

Ingredients

Scale

For the Crust:

  • For the pudding:
  • 3 cups whole milk
  • 1 (3.4 oz) box instant vanilla pudding mix
  • 1 (14 oz) can sweetened condensed milk
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract
  • For assembly:
  • 45 ripe bananas, sliced
  • 1 (11 oz) box vanilla wafers
  • For the whipped cream:
  • 2 cups heavy whipping cream
  • 1/4 cup powdered sugar
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract
  • For garnish:
  • Additional vanilla wafers
  • Banana slices

Instructions

1. Prepare the Crust:

  1. 1. Make pudding: In a large bowl, whisk together milk, pudding mix, sweetened condensed milk, and vanilla extract until smooth. Refrigerate for 5 minutes to thicken.
  2. 2. Make whipped cream: Using a hand mixer, beat heavy cream, powdered sugar, and vanilla until stiff peaks form.
  3. 3. Fold half of the whipped cream into the pudding mixture until combined.
  4. 4. Assemble trifle: In a large glass bowl, layer vanilla wafers, banana slices, then pudding mixture. Repeat layers 2-3 times.
  5. 5. Top with remaining whipped cream and garnish with crushed wafers and banana slices.
  6. 6. Cover and refrigerate for at least 4 hours (preferably overnight) before serving.

Notes

For best results, assemble trifle no more than 8 hours before serving to prevent bananas from browning. Can substitute with homemade pudding if preferred.
