A decadent Southern-style trifle featuring layers of vanilla pudding, fresh bananas, whipped cream, and vanilla wafers. Perfect for potlucks or family gatherings.

For the Crust:
- For the pudding:
- 3 cups whole milk
- 1 (3.4 oz) box instant vanilla pudding mix
- 1 (14 oz) can sweetened condensed milk
- 1 tsp vanilla extract
- For assembly:
- 4–5 ripe bananas, sliced
- 1 (11 oz) box vanilla wafers
- For the whipped cream:
- 2 cups heavy whipping cream
- 1/4 cup powdered sugar
- 1 tsp vanilla extract
- For garnish:
- Additional vanilla wafers
- Banana slices
Instructions
1. Prepare the Crust:
- 1. Make pudding: In a large bowl, whisk together milk, pudding mix, sweetened condensed milk, and vanilla extract until smooth. Refrigerate for 5 minutes to thicken.
- 2. Make whipped cream: Using a hand mixer, beat heavy cream, powdered sugar, and vanilla until stiff peaks form.
- 3. Fold half of the whipped cream into the pudding mixture until combined.
- 4. Assemble trifle: In a large glass bowl, layer vanilla wafers, banana slices, then pudding mixture. Repeat layers 2-3 times.
- 5. Top with remaining whipped cream and garnish with crushed wafers and banana slices.
- 6. Cover and refrigerate for at least 4 hours (preferably overnight) before serving.
Notes
For best results, assemble trifle no more than 8 hours before serving to prevent bananas from browning. Can substitute with homemade pudding if preferred.
