- 1/4 teaspoon nutmeg
- For the streusel topping:
- 1/2 cup old-fashioned oats
- 1/3 cup brown sugar
- 1/4 cup all-purpose flour
- 1/4 cup chopped pecans
- 3 tablespoons cold butter
Instructions
1. Prepare the Crust:
- Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C). Line a 9×13-inch baking pan with parchment paper.
- Make the crust: In a food processor, pulse flour, sugar, and salt. Add cold butter and pulse until mixture resembles coarse crumbs.
- Press crust mixture firmly into the prepared pan. Bake for 15 minutes until lightly golden.
- While crust bakes, stir cinnamon and nutmeg into apple butter. Spread evenly over warm crust.
- Make streusel: Combine oats, brown sugar, flour, and pecans. Cut in butter until crumbly. Sprinkle over apple butter layer.
- Bake 25-30 minutes until topping is golden and filling bubbles at edges. Cool completely before cutting into bars.
Notes
For best results, use thick homemade apple butter. Store bars in an airtight container for up to 5 days. Freezes well for up to 3 months.
