Description

A classic homemade apple crumble with a buttery, crisp topping and tender spiced apples. Perfect for cozy evenings or dessert gatherings.

Ingredients

Scale

For the Crust:

  • For the apple filling:
  • 6 medium apples (peeled, cored, and sliced)
  • 1/4 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 tablespoon lemon juice
  • 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 1/4 teaspoon ground nutmeg
  • 1 tablespoon all-purpose flour
  • For the crumble topping:
  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1/2 cup rolled oats
  • 1/2 cup packed brown sugar
  • 1/2 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter (cold and cubed)

Instructions

1. Prepare the Crust:

  1. Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C). Lightly grease a 9-inch baking dish.
  2. In a large bowl, combine sliced apples, granulated sugar, lemon juice, cinnamon, nutmeg, and flour. Toss until apples are evenly coated.
  3. Transfer the apple mixture to the prepared baking dish, spreading it out evenly.
  4. In another bowl, mix flour, oats, brown sugar, cinnamon, and salt for the topping.
  5. Add cold cubed butter to the topping mixture. Use your fingers or a pastry cutter to blend until the mixture resembles coarse crumbs.
  6. Sprinkle the crumble topping evenly over the apples.
  7. Bake for 35-40 minutes, or until the topping is golden brown and the apples are bubbling.
  8. Let cool for 10 minutes before serving. Enjoy warm with vanilla ice cream or whipped cream!

Notes

For extra crunch, add chopped nuts like walnuts or pecans to the crumble topping. Store leftovers covered at room temperature for up to 2 days.
