Description

Flaky, buttery scones infused with warm chai spices and topped with a sweet maple chai glaze.

Ingredients

Scale

For the Crust:

  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1/3 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 tbsp baking powder
  • 1/2 tsp salt
  • 2 tsp ground cinnamon
  • 1 tsp ground ginger
  • 1/2 tsp ground cardamom
  • 1/4 tsp ground cloves
  • 1/4 tsp ground nutmeg
  • 1/2 cup cold unsalted butter, cubed
  • 2/3 cup heavy cream
  • 1 large egg
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract
  • 1/2 cup powdered sugar
  • 2 tbsp maple syrup
  • 12 tbsp strong brewed chai tea

Instructions

1. Prepare the Crust:

  1. Preheat oven to 400°F (200°C). Line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
  2. In a large bowl, whisk together flour, sugar, baking powder, salt, and all chai spices. Cut in cold butter until mixture resembles coarse crumbs.
  3. In a separate bowl, whisk together cream, egg, and vanilla. Pour into dry ingredients and stir until just combined.
  4. Turn dough onto a floured surface, knead gently, and pat into a 1-inch thick circle. Cut into 8 wedges and place on baking sheet.
  5. Bake for 15-18 minutes until golden. Cool slightly.
  6. Whisk powdered sugar, maple syrup, and chai tea to make glaze. Drizzle over warm scones.
