Description

This Greek-inspired dish features ground beef baked with orzo pasta in a spiced tomato sauce, offering a comforting and flavorful meal.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 pound ground beef
  • 2 cups orzo pasta
  • 1 can (14 oz) diced tomatoes
  • 1 onion, chopped
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 teaspoon dried oregano
  • 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 1/2 teaspoon ground cumin
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • 2 cups beef broth
  • 1 cup feta cheese, crumbled
  • Fresh parsley for garnish

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 375°F (190°C).
  2. In a large skillet, brown the ground beef over medium heat until no longer pink; drain excess fat.
  3. Add the chopped onion and garlic to the skillet and cook until softened, about 5 minutes.
  4. Stir in the diced tomatoes, oregano, cinnamon, cumin, salt, and pepper. Simmer for 10 minutes.
  5. Add the orzo and beef broth to the skillet, stirring to combine. Bring to a boil.
  6. Transfer the mixture to a baking dish and cover with foil. Bake in the preheated oven for 20-25 minutes, or until the orzo is tender.
  7. Remove from the oven and sprinkle with feta cheese and fresh parsley before serving.

Notes

For a vegetarian version, substitute the ground beef with lentils or mushrooms. Ensure the orzo is al dente for the best texture.
