Description

Tender meatballs infused with the flavors of caramelized onions and a savory sauce, inspired by classic French onion soup.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 pound ground beef
  • 1/2 cup breadcrumbs
  • 1 large egg
  • 2 tablespoons olive oil
  • 3 large onions, thinly sliced
  • 4 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 cup beef broth
  • 1/2 cup red wine
  • 1 teaspoon thyme
  • Salt and pepper to taste

Instructions

  1. In a large bowl, combine ground beef, breadcrumbs, and egg; mix well and form into 1-inch meatballs.
  2. Heat olive oil in a skillet over medium heat; add meatballs and brown on all sides, then remove and set aside.
  3. In the same skillet, add sliced onions and garlic; cook until onions are caramelized, about 10-15 minutes.
  4. Stir in beef broth, red wine, thyme, salt, and pepper; bring to a simmer.
  5. Return meatballs to the skillet; cover and cook for 20 minutes, or until meatballs are fully cooked.

Notes

For a richer flavor, use high-quality beef broth and allow the onions to caramelize slowly.
