Description
Tender meatballs infused with the flavors of caramelized onions and a savory sauce, inspired by classic French onion soup.
Ingredients
Scale
- 1 pound ground beef
- 1/2 cup breadcrumbs
- 1 large egg
- 2 tablespoons olive oil
- 3 large onions, thinly sliced
- 4 cloves garlic, minced
- 1 cup beef broth
- 1/2 cup red wine
- 1 teaspoon thyme
- Salt and pepper to taste
Instructions
- In a large bowl, combine ground beef, breadcrumbs, and egg; mix well and form into 1-inch meatballs.
- Heat olive oil in a skillet over medium heat; add meatballs and brown on all sides, then remove and set aside.
- In the same skillet, add sliced onions and garlic; cook until onions are caramelized, about 10-15 minutes.
- Stir in beef broth, red wine, thyme, salt, and pepper; bring to a simmer.
- Return meatballs to the skillet; cover and cook for 20 minutes, or until meatballs are fully cooked.
Notes
For a richer flavor, use high-quality beef broth and allow the onions to caramelize slowly.
