A hearty and creamy German-style potato soup made in a slow cooker with sausages, potatoes, and traditional seasonings for a comforting meal.

Ingredients

Scale
  • Soup Ingredients
  • 1 lb German sausages (such as bratwurst or kielbasa), sliced
  • 6 medium potatoes, peeled and diced
  • 1 medium onion, chopped
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 4 cups chicken broth
  • 1 cup heavy cream
  • 2 tablespoons butter
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • 1 teaspoon dried marjoram
  • 1/2 teaspoon smoked paprika
  • Optional Garnishes
  • Chopped fresh parsley
  • Sour cream

Instructions

  1. Preparation:
  2. Prepare the vegetables by peeling and dicing the potatoes, chopping the onion, and mincing the garlic.
  3. Cooking the Soup:
  4. Brown the sausages in a skillet over medium heat until nicely browned on both sides, then remove and set aside.
  5. In the slow cooker, melt the butter. Add the onions and garlic and cook on high for about 15 minutes until softened.
  6. Add diced potatoes, cooked sausages, chicken broth, marjoram, smoked paprika, salt, and pepper to the slow cooker. Stir to combine.
  7. Cook on low for 6-8 hours or on high for 3-4 hours until the potatoes are tender.
  8. Finishing:
  9. About 30 minutes before serving, stir in the heavy cream and adjust seasoning if needed.
  10. Serve hot garnished with fresh parsley and a dollop of sour cream if desired.
