Description

Salted Caramel Apple Crumb Bars – apple pie bars with a thick buttery crust, a layer of spiced apples, a layer of salted caramel sauce, and a sweet crumb topping. The perfect fall dessert


Ingredients

  • For the Filling:
  • 5 cups peeled and diced apples (I used Granny Smith)
  • 1 tablespoon fresh lemon juice
  • 1/2 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon cornstarch
  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 1/4 teaspoon ground nutmeg
  • 1/4 teaspoon ground all-spice
  • 3/4 cup Salted Caramel Sauce (can use store bought)
  • For the Crust & Topping:
  • 3 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 1/4 teaspoon cinnamon
  • 1 cup cold unsalted butter, cut into small pieces
  • 1 egg, lightly beaten
  • 1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • For Serving:
  • Vanilla ice cream and extra salted caramel sauce, optional

Instructions

  1. Filling:
  2. Step 1: Peel and dice the apples into small pieces.
  3. Step 2: Toss diced apples with fresh lemon juice to prevent browning.
  4. Step 3: In a separate bowl, combine all-purpose flour, cornstarch, granulated sugar, salt, cinnamon, nutmeg, and all-spice.
  5. Step 4: Mix the dry ingredients with the apples until well combined.
  6. Step 5: Stir in salted caramel sauce to the apple mixture and set aside.
  7. Crust & Topping:
  8. Step 1: Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C).
  9. Step 2: In a large bowl, whisk together flour, sugar, baking powder, salt, and cinnamon.
  10. Step 3: Cut in cold unsalted butter until the mixture resembles coarse crumbs.
  11. Step 4: Stir in beaten egg and vanilla extract until just combined.
  12. Step 5: Press half of the dough into the bottom of a greased or parchment-lined baking pan.
  13. Step 6: Spread the apple filling evenly over the crust.
  14. Step 7: Crumble the remaining dough over the top of the apples.
  15. Step 8: Bake for about 45-50 minutes or until the topping is golden and apples are tender.
