Description

These delightful Dutch-inspired butter cookies are shaped like Christmas trees and perfect for holiday baking. Tender, buttery, and decorated with festive icing.

  • For the cookies:
  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1/2 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 1 cup unsalted butter, softened
  • 3/4 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 large egg
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • For the icing:
  • 1 cup powdered sugar
  • 2 tablespoons milk
  • 1/2 teaspoon almond extract
  • Green food coloring
  • Sprinkles for decoration

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C). Line baking sheets with parchment paper.
  2. In a bowl, whisk together flour, baking powder, and salt.
  3. In another bowl, cream butter and sugar until light and fluffy. Beat in egg and vanilla.
  4. Gradually add dry ingredients to wet mixture, mixing until combined.
  5. Roll dough to 1/4-inch thickness on floured surface. Cut into tree shapes using a cookie cutter.
  6. Bake for 8-10 minutes or until edges are lightly golden. Cool completely.
  7. For icing: Mix powdered sugar, milk, almond extract, and food coloring until smooth.
  8. Spread icing on cookies and add sprinkles. Let set.

Notes

For best results, chill dough before cutting. Store in an airtight container for up to a week.
