Description

A classic macaroni and cheese recipe that’s creamy, cheesy, and bakes to a perfectly golden top.


Ingredients

  • 8 ounces elbow macaroni
  • 4 tablespoons butter
  • 1/4 cup all-purpose flour
  • 2 cups milk
  • 2 cups shredded cheddar cheese
  • 1 cup shredded mozzarella cheese
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/4 teaspoon black pepper
  • 1/2 cup breadcrumbs (optional, for topping)

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C).
  2. Cook macaroni in boiling salted water until al dente, about 8 minutes. Drain.
  3. In a saucepan, melt butter over medium heat. Stir in flour and cook for 1 minute.
  4. Gradually whisk in milk and cook until thickened.
  5. Remove from heat and stir in cheddar and mozzarella until melted. Season with salt and pepper.
  6. Combine cheese sauce with cooked macaroni. Transfer to a baking dish.
  7. Top with breadcrumbs if using. Bake for 20-25 minutes until golden.
  8. Serve hot.
