- 8 ounces elbow macaroni
- 4 tablespoons butter
- 1/4 cup all-purpose flour
- 2 cups milk
- 2 cups shredded cheddar cheese
- 1 cup shredded mozzarella cheese
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 1/4 teaspoon black pepper
- 1/2 cup breadcrumbs (optional, for topping)
Instructions
- Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C).
- Cook macaroni in boiling salted water until al dente, about 8 minutes. Drain.
- In a saucepan, melt butter over medium heat. Stir in flour and cook for 1 minute.
- Gradually whisk in milk and cook until thickened.
- Remove from heat and stir in cheddar and mozzarella until melted. Season with salt and pepper.
- Combine cheese sauce with cooked macaroni. Transfer to a baking dish.
- Top with breadcrumbs if using. Bake for 20-25 minutes until golden.
- Serve hot.
