For the Crust:
- For the green beans:
- 2 lbs fresh green beans, trimmed
- 6 slices bacon, chopped
- For the sauce:
- 1/4 cup unsalted butter
- 1/4 cup packed brown sugar
- 3 cloves garlic, minced
- 1 tbsp soy sauce
- 1/2 tsp black pepper
- For garnish:
- 1/4 cup sliced almonds, toasted (optional)
Instructions
1. Prepare the Crust:
- 1. Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C).
- 2. In a large skillet over medium heat, cook chopped bacon until crispy. Remove with a slotted spoon and set aside, leaving drippings in pan.
- 3. Add green beans to the skillet and sauté in bacon drippings for 3-4 minutes until bright green.
- 4. In a small saucepan, melt butter with brown sugar, garlic, soy sauce, and black pepper. Stir until sugar dissolves.
- 5. Transfer green beans to a 9×13 baking dish. Pour sauce over beans and toss to coat.
- 6. Sprinkle cooked bacon pieces evenly over the top.
- 7. Bake uncovered for 20-25 minutes until beans are tender.
- 8. If using, sprinkle with toasted almonds before serving.
Notes
For crispier bacon texture, add half the bacon before baking and reserve the rest to sprinkle on top after baking. Can be made ahead – prepare through step 6, cover and refrigerate up to 24 hours before baking.
