Description

A traditional French dish where chicken is braised in red wine with mushrooms, onions, and garlic.


Ingredients

  • 3 pounds chicken pieces
  • 1 onion, sliced
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 bottle red wine
  • 8 ounces mushrooms, sliced
  • Salt and pepper to taste

Instructions

  1. Season the chicken pieces with salt and pepper.
  2. In a large pot, brown the chicken in oil over medium heat.
  3. Add the sliced onion and minced garlic, and cook until softened.
  4. Pour in the red wine and bring to a simmer.
  5. Add the mushrooms and continue to cook until the chicken is tender, about 1 hour.

Notes

For the best flavor, use a full-bodied red wine like Burgundy. Serve with mashed potatoes or crusty bread.
