- 1 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
- 1 1/2 teaspoons baking powder
- 1/4 teaspoon baking soda
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 1/2 teaspoon ground nutmeg
- 1/2 cup granulated sugar
- 1/3 cup unsalted butter, melted
- 1 large egg
- 1/2 cup buttermilk
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- For the topping:
- 1/4 cup unsalted butter, melted
- 1/2 cup granulated sugar
- 1 tablespoon ground cinnamon
Instructions
1. Prepare the Crust:
- Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease a 9×5-inch loaf pan.
- In a medium bowl, whisk together flour, baking powder, baking soda, salt, and nutmeg.
- In a separate large bowl, mix sugar and melted butter. Add egg, buttermilk, and vanilla, stirring until combined.
- Gradually add dry ingredients to wet ingredients, mixing just until incorporated (do not overmix).
- Pour batter into prepared loaf pan and bake for 45-50 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted comes out clean.
- Let bread cool in pan for 10 minutes, then transfer to a wire rack.
- While still warm, brush melted butter all over the bread. In a small bowl, mix sugar and cinnamon, then sprinkle generously over the buttered bread.
- Slice and serve warm or at room temperature.
Notes
For extra donut-like flavor, you can double the cinnamon sugar topping. Store leftovers in an airtight container at room temperature for up to 3 days.
