Description

A festive layered dessert with cake, custard, fruits, and cream, perfect for holiday celebrations.


Ingredients

  • 1 prepared sponge cake (9 inch), cut into cubes
  • 2 cups sliced fresh strawberries
  • 2 cups raspberries
  • 1 cup blueberries
  • 4 cups prepared custard
  • 2 cups heavy whipping cream, whipped
  • 2 tablespoons sherry or fruit juice (optional)
  • Chopped nuts or chocolate shavings for garnish

Instructions

  1. Prepare the fruits: Rinse and slice the strawberries, then toss with raspberries and blueberries. Add a splash of sherry or fruit juice if using.
  2. Layer the trifle in a large glass dish: Start with half the cake cubes at the bottom.
  3. Pour half the custard over the cake, then add half the fruit mixture.
  4. Repeat layers: Add the remaining cake, custard, and fruits on top.
  5. Spread whipped cream over the top and garnish with nuts or chocolate.
  6. Refrigerate for at least 2 hours before serving.

Notes

Make ahead up to 24 hours. Adjust fruits for seasonal availability. Serves best chilled.
