Description

Festive sugar cookies shaped like Christmas ornaments, perfect for holiday baking with a buttery texture and customizable icing.


Ingredients

  • 2 3/4 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1 cup unsalted butter, softened
  • 1 1/2 cups granulated sugar
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1/2 teaspoon almond extract
  • For decoration: Royal icing, food coloring, sprinkles

Instructions

  1. In a medium bowl, whisk together the flour, baking powder, and salt; set aside.
  2. In a large bowl, cream the softened butter and sugar until light and fluffy.
  3. Beat in the eggs one at a time, then stir in the vanilla and almond extracts.
  4. Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet mixture, mixing until just combined.
  5. Divide the dough in half, wrap in plastic, and chill for at least 1 hour.
  6. Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C) and line baking sheets with parchment paper.
  7. On a floured surface, roll out the dough to 1/4-inch thickness and cut into ornament shapes.
  8. Place cookies on prepared sheets and bake for 8-10 minutes, or until edges are lightly golden.
  9. Cool on wire racks before decorating with royal icing and sprinkles.
