Carrot & Pumpkin Chews for Dogs: A Healthy Homemade Treat

  • 1 cuppureed pumpkin (no added sugars orspices)
  • 1/2 cupgrated carrots (finely grated)
  • 1 1/2 cupswhole wheat flour (or oat flour for a grain-free option)

Instructions

  1. Preheat yourovento 350°F (180°C) and line a baking sheet withparchment paper.
  2. In a large bowl, mix together the pureed pumpkin and grated carrots until well combined.
  3. Gradually add the whole wheat flour to the pumpkin and carrot mixture, stirring until a dough forms. If the dough is too sticky, add a little more flour.
  4. Roll the dough out on a lightly floured surface to about 1/4-inch thickness and cut into shapes using a cookie cutter orknife.
  5. Place the cut-out chews on the prepared baking sheet.
  6. Bake in the preheatedovenfor 20-25 minutes, or until the chews are firm and slightly golden.
  7. Let the chews cool completely before serving them to your dog.

Notes

Pumpkin: Ensure you use pure pumpkin puree without any added sugars orspices. Pumpkin is great for digestion and provides fiber. Carrots: Finely grate the carrots so they blend well into the dough and are easy for your dog to eat. Whole Wheat Flour: A nutritious flour option that provides fiber and nutrients. If your dog is sensitive to wheat, you can use oat flour or another grain-free alternative. Storage: Store the chews in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to a week, or freeze for longer storage. Adjustments: Feel free to add a small amount of ground flaxseed or chia seeds for extra fiber and omega-3 fatty acids.
