A traditional Native American frybread that’s crispy on the outside and soft on the inside, perfect for savory or sweet toppings.

For the Crust:

  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 tablespoon baking powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1 cup warm water
  • Vegetable oil for frying

Instructions

1. Prepare the Crust:

  1. In a large bowl, mix flour, baking powder, and salt.
  2. Gradually add warm water, stirring until a soft dough forms.
  3. Knead the dough on a floured surface for about 5 minutes until smooth.
  4. Divide the dough into 4 equal portions and shape into balls.
  5. Roll each ball into a flat circle about 1/4 inch thick.
  6. Heat oil in a deep skillet over medium-high heat.
  7. Fry each dough circle for 2-3 minutes per side until golden brown and crispy.
  8. Drain on paper towels and serve warm.
