Description

Classic holiday treats that are soft, buttery, and perfect for decorating with icing and sprinkles.


Ingredients

  • 2 3/4 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1/2 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1 cup unsalted butter, softened
  • 1 1/2 cups granulated sugar
  • 1 large egg
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1/2 teaspoon almond extract
  • Food coloring (optional)

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 375 degrees F (190 degrees C). Line baking sheets with parchment paper.
  2. In a medium bowl, whisk together flour, baking soda, and baking powder. Set aside.
  3. In a large bowl, cream together butter and sugar until smooth. Beat in the egg and extracts.
  4. Gradually blend in the dry ingredients until fully combined.
  5. Roll dough into balls and flatten slightly on the baking sheets.
  6. Bake for 8-10 minutes or until edges are lightly golden. Cool on wire racks.

Notes

For best results, chill the dough for 1 hour before baking. Store in an airtight container for up to a week.
