Crispy Air Fryer Onion Rings

  • Author: Home Cooking Pro

Description

These air fryer onion rings are perfectly crispy on the outside and tender on the inside with minimal oil. A healthier alternative to deep-fried versions that still delivers that satisfying crunch!

Ingredients

Scale

For the Crust:

  • For the onion rings:
  • 2 large yellow onions
  • 1 cup buttermilk
  • 1 teaspoon hot sauce (optional)
  • For the coating:
  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1 cup panko breadcrumbs
  • 1 teaspoon paprika
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/4 teaspoon black pepper
  • For serving:
  • 1/2 cup ketchup
  • 1/2 cup ranch dressing

Instructions

1. Prepare the Crust:

  1. 1. Slice onions into 1/2-inch thick rings and separate layers.
  2. 2. Soak onion rings in buttermilk and hot sauce mixture for 30 minutes.
  3. 3. In one bowl, mix flour with spices. In another bowl, place panko.
  4. 4. Dredge each ring in flour, shake off excess, then press into panko.
  5. 5. Preheat air fryer to 375°F (190°C) for 3 minutes.
  6. 6. Arrange rings in single layer in air fryer basket (may need batches).
  7. 7. Lightly spray with oil and cook for 8-10 minutes, flipping halfway.
  8. 8. Serve immediately with dipping sauces.

Notes

For extra crispiness, double-coat by repeating the flour and panko steps. Store leftovers in airtight container (they’ll lose crispiness but still taste good!).
